Dr. Ankur Patel is a double board-certified interventional pain medicine and physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist committed to helping patients relieve pain, restore function, and reclaim their quality of life. He brings world-class expertise from training at some of the nation’s top-ranked medical institutions, delivering academic-level, evidence-based care in a welcoming community setting.
Dr. Patel earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) at Virginia Tech. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, the top-ranked academic hospital of Columbia University Irving Medical Centerand Weill Cornell Medicine. His training also included rotations at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS)—ranked #1 in the world for orthopedics—and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), one of the nation’s leading cancer centers. He then completed the prestigious Weill Cornell Tri-Institutional Pain Fellowship, gaining advanced expertise in managing spine, nerve, joint, and cancer-related pain.
Dr. Patel specializes in image-guided interventional procedures, neuromodulation (spinal cord and peripheral nerve stimulation), and regenerative medicine therapies, offering minimally invasive solutions for even the most complex pain conditions. He is an active contributor to the field, with numerous peer-reviewed publications, textbook chapters, and national presentations, and has been invited faculty at leading medical conferences.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Patel holds leadership roles across multiple national medical organizations and serves as clinical faculty at VCOM, mentoring medical students and residents pursuing careers in rehabilitation and pain medicine. He is highly regarded for his ability to translate cutting-edge research into compassionate, personalized care for patients in his community.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Patel enjoys life in North Carolina with his wife and children. He is passionate about cooking, traveling with his family, and spending time outdoors.
